Automatic Indexing
Touchless assembly of indexable inserts using collaborative robots frees up people to focus on the most value adding tasks.
99% of insert indexing operations remain manual, representing a significant obstacle to reaching Industry 4.0's full potential.
8 out of 10 production managers are seeking automated solutions to minimize variability and standardize assembly processes.
80% of the operators point to manual indexing of inserts as one of the sources to work-related injuries.
Automatic indexing is a concept of changing inserts on the milling cutter body using Seco data logic powered by collaborative robots. This unique data logic has been prototyped on Turbo-16 inserts enabling automatic change of inserts. The data logic is based on the detailed assembly attributes and coordinate mapping that provides robots the ability to handle the tasks with utmost precision and accuracy.
"Missing piece within the automated tool management puzzle" - Automotive OEM, EU
In the heart of our Gen 1 prototype, each tool holder and insert is encoded with a unique data matrix, ensuring seamless tracking and full visibility throughout the assembly process. Complemented by an advanced vision system, our solution smartly identifies and utilizes every usable edge of an insert, guaranteeing optimal resource use and extended tool life. The 1st Gen prototype has shown immense potential to expand into other insert types with similar locking mechanisms and AI based wear analysis based on image recognition.
